Ruggles and Rankin
Will Ruggles and Douglass Rankin, known together as Rock Creek Pottery, made pots in Buladean, NC for 27 years. They instructed and inspired a generation of Western North Carolina potters, and their annual home sales were a pilgrimage site for potters and pottery enthusiasts throughout the region. Ruggles and Rankin showed that deep exploration into materials, touch, form, fire, kilns, and firing methods can all contribute to pots that enhance daily life. Their dynamic relationship with these elements, as well as their mastery of slips, glazes, and the atmospheric effects from wood, salt, and soda continue to inspire students.
