Jacob Hashimoto is a contemporary American artist recognized for his innovative use of traditional kite-making techniques to create immersive, sculptural installations and intricate wall-mounted works. Drawing on influences from Japanese craftsmanship, digital culture, and landscape design, Hashimoto’s layered compositions often explore themes of nature, cosmology, and abstraction.
Born in 1973 in Greeley, Colorado, and based in Los Angeles, Hashimoto studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is best known for his signature use of hundreds or even thousands of hand-crafted paper and bamboo kites, which he assembles into floating environments that shift between painting and sculpture. These works invite viewers into contemplative spaces that merge the organic with the technological, the ephemeral with the monumental.
Hashimoto’s work has been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and the Palazzo Flangini in Venice during the Venice Biennale. His pieces are held in numerous public and private collections.
