The Nevica Project

Zach Tate

Zach Tate is an artist who utilizes clay as his primary medium of expression. He received his B.F.A. from Missouri State University (2008) and his M.F.A. from Texas Tech University (2012). Currently he lives in Goshen, IN and is as a visiting professor in ceramics at Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN.

Tate exhibits his work regionally, nationally, and internationally. He has been a resident artist in Europe, Asia and the United States. Aside from making and exhibiting work, Tate works as an organizer for symposiums, exhibitions, and is an author for several ceramics publications.

His utilization of the ceramic material is not solely grounded in function or sculpture, but in a synthesis of both. For him, each serves a very specific purpose that is meant to create a narrative with his audience. Clay, he feels, is  the most fluid material for this narrative due to its  historical content and intrinsic flesh-like qualities.
