Shoji Hamada
stoneware, persimmon slip, glaze and motif
approx. 4.5 x 5.5 x 5.5"
circa 1958

Provenance- this piece is being sold from the collection of Susan Lawerence in Kansas City. Her father (Sidney Lawrence) had sent his sister to Japan in 1958 to buy pottery from the Living National Treasure Mr. Hamada. This piece was purchased directly from Mr. Shoji Hamada and was sold without a box as was customary when selling pottery from Hamada to American buyers.
