grew up in both the slow culture of southwestern virginia and the fast culture of the city of san francisco. was always encouraged to be creative and declared an intent to be a potter at the age of six.
received ba in art from the college of william and mary in virginia, 1994; mfa in artisanry/ceramics from the university of massachusetts, dartmouth, 2005. taught at emory & henry college in virginia, 1999-2002 and 2010-2011. was a resident artist at the archie bray foundation in helena, mt, 2007-2009.
