Laurie Rubin
Laurie Rubin is a Chicago photographer and film director. She attended the School of Art Institute of Chicago and graduated with a BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, NY). Her photography has received such prestigious awards as the AIGA, ADDY, and the ADLA awards and was been included in exhibitions at The Catherine Edelman Gallery (Chicago), Chicago Cultural Center, and Northwestern University. This year, Rubin’s work was included in the exhibition “Image/Project” at the Arlington Arts Center in Virginia, which was curated by Taryn Simon.
"For the past four years, I have been obsessed with exploring the narrative and drama of everyday objects through photography. What fascinates me is the all-too human attempt to capture the essence of an experience within a tangible object. An item elevated to the status of artifact has transcended its original purpose for the owner to serve as a touchstone, a portal to a specific memory or feeling. The examination of someone’s personal ephemera can provide a glimpse into their passions and fascinations or intimate their most cherished memories." - Rubin
